The Fleet |
 |
The Little Ferry Police Department maintains an up to date fleet of vehicles. There are five fully marked Ford
Police interceptors (crown victoria's) with roof lights. |
One car with no roof lights for patrol.
There is one unmarked vehicle that is used for radar, two unmarked detective vehicles and one chief's vehicle. The newest addition
to the fleet was the 2001 Ford Expedition. |
This is the first four-wheel drive vehicle for the police department and it is equipped with a generator and
lights to light up crime/accident scenes. THE BEST NEWS IS THAT THE EXPEDITION WAS AT NO COST TO THE TAXPAYERS. This vehicle along
with the equipment that also includes the trailer and traffic cones was obtained with a GRANT. This vehicle does not go on routine
patrol but is used for emergencies or traffic details. |
The NEWEST addition to our fleet is a refurbished BMW California Highway Patrol Bike. The BMW bike was donated
to the Little Ferry Police Department in the beginning of the year by BMW. The only officers who are permitted to ride the bike are
Sgt. Walsh and Ptl. Anthony Ruta both pictured above.
To preserve and maintain top efficiency of the vehicles each officer is assigned to only one vehicle. By assigning vehicles the
officer tends to take better care of the vehicle and it limits the use. Most of the patrol cars have only two or three officers
assigned to them and when they are off the vehicle is rested. Each vehicle is checked weekly and a log is maintained to keep it safe
and operational. |
